Buying a campervan is a great idea for people who travel a lot throughout the country. A campervan is basically a smaller version of a motorhome. While it doesn’t offer as many amenities as you would expect from a motorhome (there’s no built-in kitchen or toilet facilities), the campervan does come with bunk beds and some basic living essentials. The good thing about travelling in a campervan is that it helps you save a lot of money on accommodations. You can just park the campervan in a local trailer park or stop at the side of the road whenever you want to relax.

If you are in the market for a new campervan, you should know that there are plenty of different options available. Most people think that buying a campervan is similar to buying a car. That’s not true at all. In fact, when it comes to buying a campervan, you must consider a number of additional factors. Many companies offer campervans for sale, so you need to decide whether you want to buy directly from the dealership, or purchase a used model.

Used or New

The first step is to decide whether you want a used campervan or a new one. A used model is obviously a riskier decision, though it’s going to be considerably less expensive. If you are buying a used campervan from a dealership, they are obligated under the Fair Trade Act to tell you of all the issues that are present in the campervan. However, many dealers often try to upsell their campervans in order to convince uninformed buyers to make a purchase. If you are looking to buy a used campervan, you should take an experienced mechanic along with you to check out all of the functions of the campervan in detail.

You will be travelling a lot in the campervan, so the last thing that you would want is for the campervan to break down in the middle of the road. Make sure that the campervan hasn’t been driven around a lot before you buy. Check the odometer readings and use an OBDII scanner to ensure there are no troubles codes in the vehicle before you buy one.

Fuel Efficiency

Campervans are obviously more fuel efficient as compared to motorhomes. However, as the campervan ages, its fuel efficiency ratings will fall drastically. The three factors that determine the fuel efficiency of the campervan are the age, model and make of the vehicle. A smaller campervan can give you around 35 miles per gallon, while full-sized motorhomes will have you staring at the fuel gauge in shock and disbelief for most of your trip! You should read reviews about different RVs before you make a purchase. Certain models are more popular and more reliable as compared to others, so it’s important to brush up on your information before you think about buying a new campervan. You will also need to pay a small amount of money for annual maintenance and servicing.
